Our poetry unit!!!

We wrote poems with the structure and layout based on Langston Hugh's poems which are called Dreams Deferred, Mother to Son and Let America be America again. But because he lived during the Harlem Renaissance so the whites treated the blacks like they were outsiders, and L.H wrote his poems from those blacks' point of views. So, for our poems, all the ideas and expressions were ours to think about so that it could be kind of called our "OWN" poems. I really liked this poetry unit more than the other units like the instructional writing unit (which I have an example of what we did above "sandwiches"). I have uploaded my L.H poems and would LOVE you to read it (if possible, could you please write your comment on my comments page please?).This English unit really inspired me as I never knew that we would actually WRITE our OWN poems in school. I thought that we would only read others' poems. That is why I really liked this unit of learning. Secondly, I liked how we could be proud of our poems and be happy as we were writing it. My favourite poem is "Let Singapore be Singapore again". It is uploaded onto this website above but under the divider. We have a board at the back of the classroom and we put our favourite one at the back, under our picture. Of course you can guess which poem is there........ It is definitely "Let Singapore Be Singapore Again"!
